About Milwaukee SHARE
Milwaukee SHARE is a week-long series of events focused on adult sex education and healthy relationships. Our goal is to provide accurate and up-to-date information on a wide variety of topics via engaging programs, brought to you by experts in the field of sexuality education.
Milwaukee SHARE will take place April 3-10, 2016. There will be featured speakers every evening, additional lunchtime and morning events throughout the week, and a day-long special conference for health care providers held on April 4.
Milwaukee SHARE is sponsored by The Tool Shed: An Erotic Boutique. The Tool Shed, located on Milwaukee's East Side, is a place where people of all genders and sexual orientations can explore their sexuality in a positive environment and be treated with respect by a friendly and knowledgeable staff. More than your typical adult store, our mission is to provide quality, body-safe products that enhance the sexual lives and relationships of our customers, while also offering accurate and affirming sexuality education in a comfortable, compassionate, and welcoming atmosphere.
While it is true that elements of sex and sexuality permeate our culture, spaces for learning about sex in a shame-free, positive environment are few and far between. Though sex and intimate relationships usually play a major role in our lives, most of us experience little formal education about our bodies, sexual pleasure, or healthy relationship models.
We believe there is a need for accurate, comprehensive sexuality education in order to promote sexual health and wellness for everyone. The goal of Milwaukee SHARE is to spark conversations and encourage learning about sex and relationships in an engaging, compassionate, and inclusive manner.
Milwaukee SHARE is teaming up with an array of experts-- including nationally-known figures in the sexuality field-- who will present on topics such as:
* Sex and aging
* Talking to your kids about sex
* Enhancing sexual pleasure for all genders
* Safe kinky play
* The role of porn in sexual representation
* Sex and disability
* Fostering a culture of consent
* Redefining intimate relationships
* Accurate and current STI information
* Sex for survivors of abuse or assault
* Utilizing yoga practice for sexual wellness
* And more!
In addition to education-based events, Milwaukee SHARE will also feature entertainment, including a night of burlesque and music. A full description of topics and events can be found here.
Finally, Milwaukee SHARE will also host a special one-day conference for health care providers on April 4, entitled "What Aren't They Talking About? Sex and Identity in Clinical Practice." Conference sessions will focus on the sexual health and well-being of four distinct groups of people (seniors, people with disabilities, transgender patients, and people with diverse sexual backgrounds) who are often uncomfortable discussing their intimate lives in health care settings. This event will provide context and sensitivity for health care providers when working with these populations.
Most of the Milwaukee SHARE events will be held at the Tool Shed in Milwaukee's East Side neighborhood. Some of the events will take place in other locations in Milwaukee; specific locations are noted in each event listing. The April 4 conference for health care providers will take place at the Alverno College Conference Center.
